He Risked His Career So His Granddaughter Would Know the Truth

“When my granddaughter is old enough to ask, ‘Tata, what were you doing back then?’ I want to look her in the eye and say, ‘I tried. I did my best,’” says Aaron Veckey, a former U.S. Border Patrol agent turned whistleblower.

He describes wrestling with fear, public criticism, and his own imperfections, and still choosing to speak the truth.

“Just because I haven’t been perfect doesn’t mean I shouldn’t try to do better. I can’t sit by. My conscience has to be clean.”

Ex-Border Patrol Agent: ‘We Weren’t Enforcing the Law’ as Migrants Poured Through Fence Holes

“You could have somebody cutting through the wall
and you can’t launch a pepper ball in his direction. Apparently, at that time, you couldn’t do anything.”

Aaron Veckey, former Border Patrol agent, says “all these refugees and all these asylum seekers
weren’t even allowed to come in through the right way” and were “funneled
through holes in the fence into the Border Patrol.”

James O'Keefe asks, “You don’t really enforce the law, do you, anymore?” Veckey responds: “At that time, we weren’t.”

Border Patrol Whistleblower: Migrants Left Freezing While Agents Laughed

“They think it’s funny
but I’m a law enforcement officer and a Christian first. It’s not my job to punish these people for coming here illegally.”

Aaron Veckey, a former Border Patrol agent, describes walking into a freezing cell with 60 men piled together, “intertwined, hugging each other
to try to stay warm,” after agents failed to turn on heaters or provide blankets. Some agents, he says, laughed and told him, “Well, this is what they get for coming here.”
